WELCOME TO THE BRIDGES ACADEMY

Building the foundation for a lifetime of learning
The Bridges Academy is the premiere independent day school centrally located in West Islip serving the Long island with an academically enriched curriculum for Toddlers through Eighth Grades. Our programs focus on the individual with a dedicated teaching staff and small class sizes. We not only concentrate on building a strong foundation for our students in reading, writing and math but also offer an enriched program to peak curiosity and authentic learning.
Our programs include character building, public speaking, history studies, greenhouse and foreign languages along with STEM programs, art, music and drama. With students attending from over 20 districts, Bridges offers a naturally diverse population that creates the ideal environment to prepare the students to become global citizens. Our graduates are accepted to the leading high schools on Long Island and elsewhere and are well prepared to excel in high school honors programs.
why small class size matters
At Bridges all of our classes have an impressively low student-teacher ratio of 15:1. Small class sizes and highly qualified teachers ensure that students get the absolute most out of their time here at Bridges. Our students have the added benefit of a variety of multi-age activities and diverse school events that create true community and leadership skills.
The Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences has found that ‘….reducing class size in grades K-3 (the average student in small classes scores higher on the Stanford Achievement Test in reading/math than about 60% of students in regular-sized classes).’

the value of a private school
The National Educational Longitudinal Study, conducted by the U.S. Department of Education, found that students attending independent schools:
Are more likely to enroll in advanced courses than their counterparts in public, parochial and other private schools
Watch only two–thirds as much television
Are significantly more likely to participate in varsity or intramural sports
Are more likely to agree that students and teachers get along well, discipline is fair and teaching is good
Lead the nation in postsecondary achievement
Place a higher value on community service and civic participation
Visit the National Association of Independent Schools website for more information on the value of an independent education.
